During the summer you can follow the cultivation of tobacco at the museum, from planting and flowering to harvest.
In early June we are planting the tobacco behind Gubbhyllan. Below the hill it is warm and sunny and the tobacco plants can grow large and strong in the protected environment. Some varieties can grow up to two meters high and blooms in midsummer.

Most plants are Alida Tobacco, prepared by Alida Olsson from Åhus to fit the mold Scanian. Seeds of her last crop in 1964 has given rise to the plants grown at the museum today. Other varieties are Bond Tobacco, Burley and Kentucky on a smaller scale, to show the differences in the plants size and flowering.
In August, we pick most of the flowers from the plants. This is done to make sure that the leaves maintain the right level of nicotine. However, some flowers are left for us to save seeds.

By autumn, we harvest the tobacco. We pick the large leaves which are then threaded on long wooden sticks for drying.
